Why Am I Doing This?Around January of this year, I came to the conclusion that I needed a sabbatical. A life sabbatical. Lots of blood, sweat, and tears went into this decision and to prevent confusion and assumption from running rampant, I won't get into the details here. Once I decided that I would take a break, I needed to figure out what that break would look like. A few seemingly random situations came together to lead me to spend my summer vacation walking through the woods of Virginia. My family has been planning a Memorial Day vacation to Washington DC to celebrate my dad's retirement for quite some time. DC is an hour train ride from Harpers Ferry, WV - an AT trail community on the Potomac River where West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia meet. Lightbulb! One way or another, my summer would be spent on the AT. But, why was the Appalachian Trail even on my radar? Well, a little over a year ago, my after school program was visited by a special guest - a local woman who was preparing to embark on a six month journey from Georgia to Maine along a little something called the Appalachian Trail (for more info on the AT, check out some of the links on my 'More' page.) So now, I had a why, a what, a where, and a when. And for the past six months, my main challenge has been figuring out the how. The prep work I have done (and am still in the process of completing) could fill a whole separate website. For now I will spare you the gory details and maybe one day I will write a blog post about it. Until then, you are invited to explore the site and come with me on a once-in-a-lifetime journey through the magical world of Appalachia.

About Me |
I plan to write something here eventually. For now, I will assume that you are visiting this site because you already
know me, therefore rendering an 'About Me' section useless and redundant. |
Life After the Trail |
When I return, I will have exactly twelve days to re-civilize myself before going back to work. Eight days after that, I will start a new adventure: grad school...
